Friday the 13th: One of the first "true" slasher films

Friday the 13th one of Hollywood's premiere horror franchises takes centre stage today, the day it was named after. Boasting 12 slasher films, a television show, comic books, novels and several tie-in merchandise, the name has become synonymous with classic horror films. The first film riding on the trend of Hollywood horror films of the 80s it made its mark on the genre.
The entire film series is based on Jason Voorhees, a young boy who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp counselors. Jason is featured in all the films, originally as the motivation for the killing, and later on he becomes the primary antagonist. The films often depicted teenage insolence, destructive behaviour, sex, alcohol and were often gruesome and blood filled. Jason Voorhees is a pop culture icon today, being easily recognised with either his machete or chainsaw. Jason's hockey mask has become one of the most recognisable images in popular culture. His likeness has been parodied in a wide range of projects across different media platforms.
The films, although not all got excellent critical reception, have become a cult phenomenon with devoted fans re-enacting scenes from the movies and producing their own fan made films. The franchise itself has creeped into almost all avenues of media, and Jason's likeness is often used as a stereotype for a mass murderer with some of the more devoted fans even getting tattoos with Friday the 13th artwork and have grossed over $465 million worldwide, making it one of the most successful.
Here is a little bit about the 12 films that catapulted the franchise to the world wide spotlight.

Friday the 13th (1980)
Widely considered the first "true" slasher film, the first film introduces the camp, Jason Voorhees and his tragic end and revolves around camp counsellors getting killed by someone at the camp. Fun fact, this was one of Kevin Bacon's first prominent roles.

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
This is the first film that features Jason Voorhees as the primary antagonist, a plot point that carries on for the rest of the series. After Mrs. Voorhees is killed by Alice in the first film, we find out that Jason never drowned in the lake and is alive and kicking, and ready for revenge.

 Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)
This film shows Jason surviving what should have been a fatal wound from the last movie. As some kids come out to party in the woods near Camp Crystal Lake, they find soon find out they are not alone. This film introduces the hockey mask Jason will wear through the rest of the series.

Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter (1984)
Once again Jason survives a near fatal injury and comes back to the camp to continue his murderous rampage. But this time, he might have met his match in young Tommy Jarvis.

Friday the 13th - A New Beginning (1985)
This movie opens 10 years later, showing us how Tommy Jarvis has been in and out of mental hospitals not being able to get over the events of the previous film. Tommy moves into a home for disturbed teenagers and another hockey masked killer begins to killing off the people there. Has Tommy completely lost his grip on reality and taken over Jason's role, or has Jason somehow cheated death once more.

Friday the 13th - Jason Lives (1986)
This is the first film since the original to receive a positive reaction from fans and critics alike. Resurrecting Jason by electricity, thereby making him more of a zombie supernatural like killer rather than a mortal psychopath; the film continues its murderous theme.

Friday the 13th - The New Blood (1988)
Years after Tommy Jarvis chained Jason underwater at his old stomping grounds, the killer returns after he is accedently released by a teenager exhibiting psychic powers.

Friday the 13th - Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
Intended to be the last film of the series, it again shows Jason being resurrected by electricity and this time he's taking his murder spree to New York.

Jason Goes To Hell - The Final Friday (1993)
Meant to be the last film of the Friday the 13th franchise, and a set up for Freddy Vs. Jason; hence the name of the movie and the final scene. However due to financial and production problems, Jason Xwas first produced and then Freddy Vs. Jason was released. The film shows how Jason needs to possess different people in order to stay alive. He eventually is defeated and sent to hell. However a final surprise scene may change things.

Jason X (2001)
Jason X is an interim film so that kinks could be worked out forFreddy Vs Jason. The film takes place in the future so it doesn't mess up the continuity. It sees Jason still alive and menacing people in the future.

Freddy Vs Jason (2003)
The movie explains how Freddy has lost the power to hurt his victims through their dreams, so he resurrects Jason to wreak havoc. However when Jason starts killing Freddy's potential victims, the inevitable clash between the two murderers begins.

Friday The 13th (2009)
Acting as a part reboot or part continuation of the original movies, the movie maintains the canon of the previous films. It shows the gruesome murders at the hands of Mrs. Voorhees and Jason's rampage thereafter as well as Jason's return to his old ways.

Rs5 crore per episode for Bigg Boss season 7? Salman Khan says it is more

The actor is said to have doubled the money he was charging for the previous season for the Colors show but Salman wants to keep the media guessing about his pay cheque.

Salman Khan says he is charging more than the reported five crore sum per episode for hosting celebrity reality show Bigg Boss season 7.
The actor is said to have doubled the money he was charging for the previous season for the Colors show but Salman wants to keep the media guessing about his pay cheque.
When asked whether he was getting five crore per episode, Salman joked, "'Kam hai... figure kam hai, jyaada charge kar raha hoon' (The figure is less, I am charging more)." Salman, 47, who returns as the host for the fourth time on the show, will play a double role of an angel and devil to the contestants holed up in 'Bigg Boss' house for three months.
The actor said it will not be a tough call for him because he has small doses of both inside him.
"There is nothing unique in the show. It is just that we have this new concept of hell and heaven. I play a double role in it and will bring out the difference through my body language only. 'Ab baar baar costume change karna to mushkil hai na' (It would be difficult to change costume each time.)," Salman told PTI in an interview.
"We all have two sides both devilish and angelic but it depends totally on us how good we can be in bringing the goodness in us and suppressing the bad side. It's going to be fun and entertaining for me," Salman said.
Last season saw Salman trying his best to make contestants like Imam Siddiqui and Rajeev Paul behave properly. Salman said he would try his best to keep a rein on contestants' behavious this time too.
"Though it's not my job to control them (contestants) on the show, I do it so that the blame should not come on me. If I don't stop them from behaving badly then people will think that I promote such behaviour. In normal life it is not a big deal but behaving badly on a prime time show is not permissible at all because families watch it," he said.
Salman believes the show has helped many celebrities to get a new lease of career.
"Many actors have got an image makeover after their participation on the show. There are many in our industry, who are stuck without their fault. The biggest example is Rahul Bhatt. When he entered the show, people thought he will give solid entertainment to the show. But he clarified his part on the day two of his arrival," Salman said.
The actor feels the contestants who create nuisance are not accepted well when they come out of the show.
"'Bigg Boss' is a family entertaining show. The show has nothing to do with small town or big town. Everything is so magnified on television and print that many contestants feel they will get a career high.
"They think by doing that they will get noticed but people will be wary of them. When they will come out they will not get many offers. Nobody wants to work with an erratic person.
It's important for them to control themselves," he said.
Bigg Boss will start airing from September 15.

Is Parineeti Chopra the next Kajol?

She lights up the screen every time she is on it. Critics call her a powerhouse of talent. She is spontaneous, and effortlessly overshadows her heroes. She is careless about her appearance, is not size zero and is unapologetic about it. She defies rules and does unconventional roles. You’d think we are describing Kajol.
Yes, all that holds true for her, but it also does for Parineeti Chopra. All of the above, plus the the fact that she isn’t trying to fit into anyone’s (including cousin sister Priyanka Chopra’s) shoes has put this newbie on the wishlist of many B-Town filmmakers.
While the glamour brigade might not consider her competition, Parineeti is slowly but surely making her way to the top. Just like Kajol did. The parallels between the two actresses are just too many to be ignored. Read on and you’ll soon be nodding in agreement...
Slow start: Kajol made her debut with Bekhudi in 1992. The film failed to make much noise at the box office. Similarly, Parineeti started her inning with Ladies VS Ricky Bahl (LVR) that was average fare and she shared screen space with Dipannita Sharma, Aditi Sharma, and more importantly Anushka Sharma (the leading lady). And despite the no-show at the cash register, both Kajol and Parineeti were noticed by the critics as well as the industry.
Girls-next-door charm: Parineeti, like Kajol, doesn’t follow or set trends. Her dressing style has even drawn flak at times, but the actress chooses to dress for comfort rather than to make a fashion statement. Like Kajol, she believes that her work should speak for her and that is all she is really bothered about. As long as she gets a thumbs-up from the audiences, she doesn’t care about the thumbs down from fashion critics.
Adi’s girls: The Yash Raj bond is common to both the actresses. Kajol was in Aditya Chopra’s debut film as a director — Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. And Parineeti is Adi’s find. She made her  debut with YRF. Kajol made her comeback with the banner after having her daughter Nysa, with Fanaa. Parineeti has so far only acted in Yash Raj films — Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance. With Kill Dil, Pari will be a part of KJo’s Dharma production (another Kajol territory)
Critics’ favourite: Like Kajol, who won praise even in movies that were absolute disasters, Parineeti has proved her mettle in every movie that she has acted in. She has manage to woo the critics in movies that didn’t really focus on her (LVR) or were meant to be the hero’s launch vehicle (Ishaqzaade). And now in Shuddh Desi Romanceshe has stolen the thunder from Sushant Singh Rajput.
Often tagged as spontaneous, an attribute that Kajol has possessed, Parineeti seems to be doing everything right in front of the camera.
The future: Parineeti’s innings in B-Town will now depend on the choices she makes. After playing the much-loved Simran in DDLJ (1995), Kajol shocked everyone when she played the villain in Gupt (1997). She is probably one actress who has tried her hand at all sorts of roles and has been extremely convincing at it.
Shuddh Desi Romance sure wasn’t run-of-the-mill, but hereon it will be interesting to see if  Parineeti continues to pick projects that are slightly risky. Will her journey be like that of Kajol, or will it take a different route? Watch this space.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who will be hosting the seventh season of Colors reality show, Bigg Boss says that Shah Rukh Khan is welcome to come on the show and promote his films.

The two actors have been giving the cold shoulder to each other since five years now. But recently they were seen sharing a hug during an Iftaar party. Salman said that hugging Shah Rukh was the natural thing to do.
